General advice on staying healthy

People First: One You

Any of us can find ourselves experiencing unexpected health problems, and sometimes they can have a huge impact on how we live our lives. We can never predict what is round the next corner or guarantee that we will remain completely healthy, but we can do a lot to reduce the risks of becoming unwell, and to give ourselves the best possible chance of living a healthy, active, happy life.

In the ‘One You’ part of the People First site you can learn more about how to take care of your health, manage your medications, eat well and stay healthy.

NHS Health Checks

The NHS Health Check is aimed at adults in England aged 40 to 74 and will involve measuring your blood pressure, pulse, height and weight and asking you some lifestyle questions. The aim is to help you to find out if you are at increased risk of certain serious health conditions so they can be addressed before they become a problem.

They are free, take about 20 minutes and can be conducted with a Health Trainer- you can refer yourself without needing to see a GP by using the link on the People First site. Alternatively you can arrange to have this done at your GP practice.
